Privateseller.ie in the media
Since the launch of PrivateSeller.ie in 2005, the media have maintained a steady interest in the revolution in private property sales that Privateseller leads.
Why not Sell your home yourself or even swap? - Irish Independent, 1st Sept 2009
NOT so long ago, there was a surge of
interest in the idea of selling your home yourself as a way to cut out
the sometimes astronomical commissions charged by many estate agencies.
Thanks to websites like www.privateseller.ie homeowners can advertise
their properties themselves for a nominal fee and avoid paying
commissions of between 1-2pc to agencies, which could result in average
savings of €6,000.
"While we are obviously quieter in the last 18 months than in the
previous three years, sellers that wouldn't have considered selling
privately in the past are now chaning their minds with a lot of
success," says Fiona Mc Loughlin of privateseller.ie.
"Almost 70pc of the properties listed on our website were previously
listed with an estate agent who failed to sell the property and we're
successfully selling those properties". There are no hard statistics
on private sales in Ireland, but it is estimated that in the UK private
sales now make up about 10pc of the overall market. In the current
stagnant market, you could also consider property swapping, says Liz
O'Kane, a professional house hunter.
"Estate agents fees, which can be up to 2pc of teh price of the
property depending on where you live, are eliminated", she says.
"Financial approval is not required.
"At least half a dozen have done it successfully and happily since last May via myswap.ie" she adds
.

As the recession begins to bite, buying and selling a home requires more imagination. Recession squeezes all aspects of life, but the property market tends to be hit particularly hard. The current slowdown has big ramifications for anyone who has bought property or is thinking about getting into the market. But whether you’re a buyer, a seller or staying put, it is possible to save money in the current property market with a little know how.
The option here is to sell the house yourself – and potentially save yourself thousands of euros and cut estate agents and their fixed fees. A simple web search reveals that there are plenty of private sales organisations out there. Private Seller is one that, for a flat fee ( either €199 for standard service or €399 for a more comprehensive package) offers advice and options if you decide to go down this route.

Selling solo isn’t as loco as you think – in fact, it could save you a packet.
So now that the buying and selling frenzy of the past 10 years has slowed down, where to now for sellers in an uncertain, sluggish market? Well, it’s time to think outside the box.....there is another way of selling your home and it’s via a website – set up by Fiona Mc Loughlin – that I’ve been keeping my eye on for more than a year now. It’s www.privateseller.ie and, for modest fee, you can sell your home yourself.
For just €199 you can list your property with six photos and a full description and you will receive a private seller sign in the post. If you don’t fancy doing the work yourself, Private Seller will provide a photographer, write the full house details, download your information and send out the board for just €399. the current climate and those kind of fees should entice you to have a go.
The great thing about private selling is you are the expert when it comes to your house. You cut out the middleman and get all the best feedback firsthand. You are also in the best position to negotiate as you won’t have any auctioneer’s fees (which attract VAT at 21pc, don’t forget) which are at least 1pc in the capital and are creeping up to almost 2pc.

Sell your home yourself? What's the story with being your own estate agent? HIGH PERCENTAGE-BASED commissions, and question marks over what some estate agents do to earn them, have seen a growing number of people with houses to sell looking for cheaper alternatives. And when you consider the potential savings that can be made, it's not hard to see why.As house prices rocketed through the boom years so did the fees some estate agents pocketed. If a house in Ranelagh sold for €200,000 in 1998, an estate agent made anywhere between €2,000 and €4,000 plus VAT for facilitating the sale. Today, the same house might sell for €1 million with the agent's slice anywhere between €10,000 and €20,000 - up over 400 per cent in 10 years.

The internet would appear to offer a level playing-field for agents and private sellers. Once you supply your details, including photographs, online, a house selling company will provide your boards, post your property on their website, set up press advertising on your behalf ( at your expense) and will in the best instances give you ongoing advice on marketing the goods. Launched in March 2005, Private Seller (www.privateseller.ie) is the largest of the private home sale companies and is marked out from many starter sites by its extensive support of their clients throughout the sale period.

Selling homes …privately. Privateseller.ie Ireland’s largest dedicated private sales website. It assists people to sell their homes privately saving them thousands on commission. It received over one million hits to its site in the month of March alone. It is true that, in many places around the country, all that is required to sell your property is a ‘For Sale’ board and a website listing. If that is all that is required, them why pay more?
